The Paediatric Critical Care Unit at Derby Royal Hospital looks after children requiring High Dependency Care from birth to 18 years old.  Ward round happens between approximately 9.30-10.30am every morning which parents are present for.  Children are nursed on a one nurse to two patient ratio within the critical care unit.

Car Parking

There are a total of eight car parks based around the internal loop road of the hospital.  The closest car park to PCCU is car park 6.  A weekly pass for hospital parking is available from the car parking office in car park 6 for £11, evening parking (5pm-8pm) is £1 and overnight parking (5pm-8am) is £2.  Parking outside of these times is up to £9 per day

Facilities for Parents and Carers

  • Visitors are limited to two parents or carers per patient for the duration of the child's admission
  • Only one parent or carer can stay resident overnight with each patient although in exceptional circumstances this may be revised with discussion from the Critical Care Leads or the nurse in charge of the shift
  • There is a parents room located on Dolphin ward providing tea, coffee, milk and toast for breakfast for parents and carers.  A fridge and microwave is also located here for parents and carers to use as they wish.
  • There is a water fountain located opposite the nurses station on Dolphin ward.
  • If you are a breastfeeding mother all meals and snacks will be provided for the duration of the child's admission.
  • The hospital canteen is located on the 5th floor of the hospital, Marks and Spencer and Costa are located on the ground floor by the main entrance to the hospital.
  • As the ward is a critical care area recliner chairs are available for parents and carers to sleep on overnight.
  • Parents overnight accomodation is available but allocated on a shift by shift, daily basis.
